Selena Gomez pregnant rumors followed hospital visit #itjustagossipgirlthing

Selena Gomez’s hospital visit for blood pressure issues sparked “Selena Gomez pregnant” rumors straight out of the gate when people learned Gomez was admitted for nausea and a severe headache.

Is it fair to jump to conclusions about celebrities being pregnant?

All too often, the baggy shirt or tummy bloat photos of celebs automatically get the pregnancy rumors rolling. Can’t a woman wear an oversized shirt or have a big meal?

What if Selena Gomez was in the hospital for something more serious? Pegging her as pregnant and having Justin Bieber’s baby seems to be jumping the gun just a bit.

Still, many would argue that if you’re a celebrity, this kind of speculation comes with the territory. If you want to live the life of the rich and famous celeb, you’re going to be picked apart for every fashion choice you make and every pound of weight gain you have… and, as in Selena’s case, every mention of an upset stomach will suddenly scream pregnancy.

For those fans wondering why Selena Gomez went to the hospital, here’s an update.

First, it looks like pregnancy rumors have been completely shot down. No, Selena Gomez is not pregnant!

Instead, reports surfaced that Selena Gomez may have blood pressure issues or could have been suffering from exhaustion and / or food poisoning.

E! News’ Giuliana Rancic said on the Today show this morning that Selena Gomez’s illness was stress-related. How could she not be under stress with her jam packed schedule and the imposing paparazzi?

HollywoodLife.com consulted with Dr. Dexter Sun at NY Presbyterian Hospital/ Cornell Weill Medical College to get some Selena diagnosis options.

Given Selena Gomez’s symptoms, Dr. Sun said, “If Selena is suffering from high blood pressure, it could be triggered by persistent stress, but that is unusual, but not unheard of, in an 18-year-old.”

The doctor mentions that high blood pressure can point to a kidney problem, such as infection or kidney disease, or she could have an adrenal gland tumor (though extremely rare, he notes).

Dr. Sun confirms that “increased blood pressure can cause nausea and headache,” and cautions that if Gomez’s blood pressure is high, “doctors will need to reduce it with medication” and it may “be dangerous to let her participate in activities.”

Stress-related high blood pressure would require Selena to make some lifestyle changes.

Do you think it’s okay to speculate about celebrities being pregnant? Or should we let celebs make their joyous baby announcements without the world trying to guess is-she-or-isn’t-she pregnant?

Perhaps celebrities have thrown out all rights to privacy?

Looks like they need to add “Did she have a stomach ache or complain of nausea?”

LATEST SELENA GOMEZ UPDATE: E! Online is reporting that a source close to Selena says she is doing much better, saying, “She spent the weekend resting and feels stronger. No more nausea or dizziness.” Selena will perform in Santa Monica today.

UPDATE 2: Selena Gomez took to Twitter and Facebook to thank her fans for their get well wishes: “Feeling much better, thank you all for being so understanding. Can’t wait to see you all today at Santa Monica Place for the Monte Carlo kick off.”
